“RANDOM SEXUALLY MOTIVATED ATTACKS, AS ALLEGED IN THIS CASE, DON’T JUST TRAUMATIZE THE IMMEDIATE VICTIM, THEY ALSO TERRORIZE AN ENTIRE COMMUNITY LEAVING RESIDENTS FEARFUL FOR THEIR PERSONAL SAFETY,” BERLIN SAID. “THIS IS COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE AND WILL NOT BE TOLERATED IN DUPAGE COUNTY. OUR COMMUNITIES WILL NOT LIVE IN FEAR AND THANKS TO THE TREMENDOUS INVESTIGATION CONDUCTED BY MULTIPLE AGENCIES, MR. KORANTENG IS NOW AWAITING TRIAL IN THE DUPAGE COUNTY JAIL.”

WHEATON - DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin, Hinsdale Chief of Police Brian King, Downers Grove Chief of Police Michael DeVries and Darien Chief of Police Greg Thomas announced today that Judge Jeffrey MacKay has granted the State’s motion to detain pre-trial a Willowbrook man accused of attempting to sexually assault a woman in Hinsdale and grabbing women in Downers Grove and Darien. Kwame Koranteng, 31 (d.o.b. 9/24/1994) of the 400 block of Ridgemoor Drive, appeared in First Appearance Court this morning charged with one count of Attempt Criminal Sexual Assault (Class 2 Felony), two counts of Aggravated Battery in a Public Place (Class 3 Felony), two counts of Aggravated Battery – Person Over Sixty (Class 3 Felony) and one count of Criminal Sexual Abuse (Class 4 Felony).

On November 7, 2025, at approximately 3:00 p.m., Downers Grove police officers responded to a call for a woman who allegedly was grabbed from behind by an unknown individual. After speaking with the victim, it is alleged that she was walking on Brookbank Road when an individual who was parked in his vehicle, later identified as Koranteng, exited his vehicle ran up behind the victim and passed her. It is alleged that after passing the woman, Koranteng turned around, walked past the victim and grabbed the victim’s buttocks and asked her if “she can have sex.” It is further alleged that Koranteng then left the scene, entered a Toyota Corola and fled. On November 10, 2025, at approximately 2:44 p.m., officers with the Hinsdale Police Department responded to a call of a delayed sexual assault. After speaking with the victim, it is alleged that the victim was walking with a six-month-old child on a path on 59th Street and when she briefly stopped, she felt someone, later identified as Koranteng, grab her buttocks from behind with both hands. It is further alleged that when the woman turned around, Koranteng reached down with one hand and touched the victim’s vagina over her clothes. It is alleged that when the victim began screaming for help, Koranteng fled the scene. On November 14, 2025, Darien Police received a delayed report from a victim who reported that at approximately 10:15 p.m. the night before, a male, later identified as Koranteng, allegedly followed the woman in the lobby of her apartment. It is further alleged that Koranteng then grabbed the woman by her buttocks and then left the vestibule. Through their investigation, authorities identified Koranteng as a suspect in these cases. It is alleged that on November 14, 2025, while officers were conducting surveillance on Koranteng in the 7300 block of Fairmount Avenue in Downers Grove, officers observed Koranteng exit his vehicle and approach a woman with her minor grandchild. It is alleged that when the woman bent over to pick up her grandchild, Koranteng approached her from behind and grabbed her buttocks and attempted to wrap his arms around her. It is alleged that when the victim pushed Koranteng away, he fled back to his vehicle where he was arrested and taken into custody.

“Random sexually motivated attacks, as alleged in this case, don’t just traumatize the immediate victim, they also terrorize an entire community leaving residents fearful for their personal safety,” Berlin said. “For nearly a week, as Mr. Koranteng allegedly roamed the streets of DuPage County looking for his next victim, residents were left feeling frightened and vulnerable as they went about their daily lives. This is completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated in DuPage County. Our communities will not live in fear and thanks to the tremendous investigation conducted by multiple agencies, Mr. Koranteng is now awaiting trial in the DuPage County Jail. I commend the Hinsdale, Downers Grove and Darien Police Departments whose outstanding collaborative work brought an end to Mr. Koranteng’s alleged reign of terror. I also thank Assistant State’s Attorneys Helen Kapas, Eric Vincent and Denis Cahill who went above the call of duty, working into the wee hours of the night to secure charges against Mr. Koranteng.”

“We are grateful for the excellent police work and assistance provided by the Downers Grove Police Department as well as DuPage County State’s Attorney Bob Berlin and his team that brought this case to a successful conclusion and took this predator off the streets,” King said.

“I want to thank our patrol officers for their response and preliminary investigation, which provided key evidence, along with our Investigations Unit for their diligence and outstanding police work in apprehending the offender and holding him accountable on behalf of the victims in these cases” DeVries said. “I'd also like to thank State’s Attorney Robert Berlin and his office for their assistance in this case.”

Koranteng’s next court appearance is scheduled for December 8, 2025, in front of Judge Ann Celine O’Hallaren Walsh.

Members of the public are reminded that this complaint contains only charges and is not proof of the defendant’s guilt. A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the government’s burden to prove his or her guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
