THE INVESTIGATION ULTIMATELY LED AUTHORITIES TO A MOTEL 6 IN EAST SYRACUSE, NEW YORK, WHERE, ON JUNE 17, 2026, UNITED STATES MARSHALS, WORKING IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE DUPAGE COUNTY STATE’S ATTORNEY’S OFFICE AND HANOVER PARK POLICE DEPARTMENT, TOOK ROJAS-ALCOCER INTO CUSTODY.

HANOVER PARK - DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin and Hanover Park Chief of Police Andrew Johnson announced today that Judge Timothy McJoynt has granted the State’s motion to detain pre-trial a Hanover Park man accused of repeatedly Sexually Assaulting, Beating and Kidnapping his girlfriend. Jose Rojas-Alcocer, 32 (d.o.b. 4/9/1994) of the 6200 block of Kit Carson Drive, appeared in First Appearance Court this morning charged with three counts of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Assault (Class X Felony), one count of Aggravated Kidnapping (Class X Felony), one count of Aggravated Domestic Battery (Class 2 Felony) and one count of Aggravated Battery (Class 3 Felony).

On June 14, 2026, at approximately 11:47 a.m., Hanover Park police officers responded to a 911 call from a woman who told the dispatcher that her boyfriend, later identified as Rojas-Alcocer, had allegedly physically and sexually abused her and threatened to kill her. Upon their arrival, officers found the victim outside the residence she shared with Rojas-Alcocer covered in numerous lacerations and bruises. Following an investigation into the matter it is alleged that the victim and Rojas-Alcocer lived together and that after Rojas-Alcocer grew suspicious that the victim was seeing other men, he took away her cell phone and would not allow her to leave the residence, confining her to the primary bedroom and only allowing her to leave the bedroom to go to the bathroom. It is alleged that Rojas-Alcocer installed cameras in the bedroom so he could monitor the victim. It is further alleged that from May 10, 2026, through June 14, 2026, Rojas-Alcocer refused to let the victim leave the house and physically and sexually abused the victim on multiple occasions. It is alleged that some of the physical abuse included, cutting the victim with a large kitchen knife causing a deep laceration and telling the victim he wanted to watch her bleed, hitting the victim about her body and head with a wrench, choking the victim and burning the victim with cigarettes. The investigation also found that Rojas-Alcocer allegedly forced the victim to drown a cat in the bathtub and if she did not, he would kill her. The victim was able to call authorities when Rojas-Alcocer left the home to go to work. The investigation ultimately led authorities to a Motel 6 in East Syracuse, New York, where, on June 17, 2026, United States Marshals took Rojas-Alcocer into custody.

“The psychological, emotional and physical pain Jose Rojas-Alcocer allegedly inflicted upon his girlfriend is inconceivable,” Berlin said. “It is alleged that for more than a month, Rojas-Alcocer systematically and repeatedly sexually assaulted the survivor in this case and held her captive in a bedroom, which he had under twenty-four-hour surveillance. This psychological abuse, coupled with the torturous, repeated physical assaults allegedly administered by the defendant are among the worst I’ve seen in my thirty-eight years as a prosecutor. I commend the Hanover Park Police Department for their exceptional work on this case which ultimately led to the apprehension of the defendant in New York. I thank the United States Marshals Service for their assistance in taking Mr. Rojas-Alcocer into custody. Most importantly, I thank the survivor for her courage in contacting authorities which allowed us to file these extremely serious charges against Mr. Rojas-Alcocer. I also thank Assistant State’s Attorneys Jennifer Lindt and Alysa Feld for their outstanding efforts in securing charges against the defendant in this very disturbing case.”

“I would like to thank State’s Attorney Bob Berlin and his team for their dedication and partnership with us to ensure that justice is served in this incredibly heinous crime,” Johnson said. “Our officers and investigators worked tirelessly to build this case with the cooperation of the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office and the U.S. Marshals. The message must be sent that this type of horrendous crime will be met with a swift response to the fullest extent of the law.”

Rojas-Alcocer’s next court appearance is scheduled for July 20, 2026, in front of Judge Mia McPherson.

Members of the public are reminded that this complaint contains only charges and is not proof of the defendant’s guilt. A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the government’s burden to prove his or her guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
